FS: Sub/Amp/Box

More stuff for sale... Premier 10" sub, and a pioneer GM-5200t Amp, and a box to hold it all.
Thinking $175 for the whole thing.

My Awesome Endtable

Another for sharing is caring: My awesome endtable.

My friend Alex and I frequented a local bar with the coolest tables around.  These tables were some sort of clear plastic (which we later learned was polyesther based) with different things encased within this plastic, be it wolverine toys, star wars, pogs, money & drugs... each one is different.  As car guys we figured we'd try our hands at something similar.  This was the product.

The base was a brake rotor, the height comes from a Ford camshaft, some metal bits that look like pushrods (not really pushrods though) coupled to pistons.  The pistons were embedded in some of this poly that we totally ripped off the idea for.

I say was when talking about the table, because with our shoddy welding skills the base eventually broke since apparently camshafts are brakes were never meant to be joined in automotive furniture-art.

Just discovered another great site: May Day Garage

While the paint on this particular miata doesn't appeal to my aesthetic, the rest of it is pretty cool... and upon poking around on the site I appropriated the picture from, I'll go ahead and call the guys at May Day Garage men of taste.

Like any great Car Pr0n repository they have a nice mix of old and new, race and show, Italian, English, German, American and Japanese. They have a lot of original photography, and of remarkable quality. Color me a fan.

Awesome Illustration of Land Speed Record Vehicles

I am certainly an art lover, especially that of the tasteful automotive variety... I damned near cried when the run of $80 signed/numbered Camilo Pardo prints sold out before I could get my hands on one.

...but I digress.  A very talented illustrator named Stefan Marjoram made a brilliantly illustrated history of land speed record vehicles which you can enjoy here: http://stefanmarjoram.com/art.htm

Take a look at his photos too, which are equally brilliant as his illustration work.

Miata Challenge

http://www.supermiata.com/miata-challenge

The miata challenge is a series of time attack events across the country, this years starts January 29th at Buttonwillow raceway.  The rules also look pretty liberal, from a cursory look it appears you could be running a small block ford, or FI on a 1.6 or 1.8 and still have room for some handeling and be well within the most tame of classes; street.

This guy looks familiar.....

Looks like a very very cool event, if anyone has pics of last years shenanigans, or plans on compete in 2011 please drop me a line.

The ricer in me likes the Hellaflush.. I admit it

But the bigger part of me that thinks form should follow function doesn't.

Either way, for those of you so inclined to view a video of 'stanced out' cars in Austin, clicky.

Craigslist find: Miata with a sexual history.. wait, what?

According to the craiglist ad this car has a bad sexual history... I think I'd rather not know, even though the ad says they have cleaned it... good deal?

Scott's Roadster aka Miata Pr0n vol VI

I really appreciate this car, part hard parker, part track slut, part driver.  With the extra set of wheels & tires how can you say a miata isn't practical?!

Save the Ring!

Saw this a few places today.... seems like a good cause to me.

And like the cause on facebook!

Laptop sold!

Sold my laptop today to a nice older lady.  Threw in a laptop sleeve and turned down an offer for $25 more which came after I had setup arrangements with the lady who ultimately bought it.

I have another batch of stuff to list in the next few days, so stay tuned.

Local Miata Pr0n... Vol V

I think I've met Adam, not quite sure, know I've seen his car around town.  His is a gorgeous black and white example with a seriously great interior, and a helluva story.

Mazda Miata Super 20: More Miata Pr0n! (IV)

While not exactly new news, as it was from November 4th at SEMA, it's still worth mentioning.  The Miata Super 20 with parts from Cosworth, ACT, Mazdaspeed, Racing Beat and Stop Tech riding on what looks to be Enkei RPF1's tucked under some nice flares, looks to be quite a nice package.

A little too quiet on the FMM front

Surprised or not, haven't been having many bites on some of my items like the laptop.  Soon I hope to have more funds in the account, I think once I get to around $1000 the search for a car will start.  Ideally before Spring when Miata prices are still softer.

Quite possibly the best looking Mioterr evAr: Miata Pr0n Vol III

Speedhunters had an amazing write up on Chris Lee's Miata, which, in my ever so humble opinion, is the best looking miata out there.  I won't even attempt to re-write the article: CAR SPOTLIGHT>>A SICK LITTLE MX-5 - Speedhunters

Sharing is Caring: Pics from Pikes Peak 2010

Figured I'd share a few pics from the trip I took with my girlfriend and friend to Pikes Peak for the Hill Climb. (all but the last photo are mine)

I'd be remiss if I didn't start out with Monster.  Holy hell this car was fast.  He was one of the 3 unlimited cars, so a helicopter was following the whole way up.

Rhys Millen was working to break the record that Monster took from his dad Rod, and brought this amazing piece of machinery.  It wasn't enough though.

Lots of other great stuff, like Bill Caswell and the infamous $500 BMW rally car.

The Semi was amazing too!

But the real reason we went up was to cheer on our friend Victor Kuhns who was campaigning his GC8 STi.

Unfortunately on Friday practice thins didn't go as planned around the top section.

Fortunately Victor and Curtis were ok, and look they may return next year.

Miata Pr0n vol II

Autoblog, another of my very favorite sites, had this posted a bit ago.  The Peter Brock BRE Miata, which may look familiar to those of you that share my fascination with 510's and 240Z's.
Enjoy

Some car wisdom from Ex Vi Termini

nNot sure how many people remember this site, guy had an amazing GTR, but the thing that stuck with me more than the amazing auto was the line 'With strength comes limits' that reminds me sort of a tarted up version of ' cheap, fast, reliable, pick two'.

...at any rate here's a vid of ol' boys skyline.

The Funny part of the Camaro

I was looking through some old pictures, and happened upon this one.  Might have been another tell tale of the horrible luck I'd have with this car, but at least it's kinda funny.

My good friend Mike Sherbring had been giving me a hand with getting the carb tuned, as I am from the EFI generation.  We got the Camaro running perfectly, so I took it around the block.  This is what happened:

The cop was wondering why, despite being pulled over (for expired tags, the car hadn't run in a year), I had a shit eating grin.  I explained, but he didn't buy it.  I still got a ticket.  C'est la vie.

Dad’s 8289-Mile Stowaway: 1988 Toyota SR5 4×4 « BaT – The best vintage and classic cars for sale online

Story of selling my dad's '88 Toyota pickup

Dad’s 8289-Mile Stowaway: 1988 Toyota SR5 4×4 « BaT – The best vintage and classic cars for sale online

A lesson in economics to be had here, along the same lines that Mr. Jay Leno mentions here as to what would be a classic.  Buy something you love, and have a passion for.  Others will likely share that passion and your vehicle may appreciate, or at least not depreciate in value much if at all.  After 22 years of ownership my dad's truck, which he loved dearly, lost him little in absolute value, though a bit more in inflation adjusted monies.

Sadly my dad realized there was little point in having it if he could no longer enjoy it (due to health reasons).

Note to self; be more specific in CL barter section.

Today I learned it is best to be more specific on the barter section of craigslist. Not that I am against crystals and sage smoke, but energy healing services just aren't my bag.

Live and learn.

2 Trades done today!

Traded the iPod for some shades, and shades for a 10 inch sub and amp!

I will have pictures of the sub & amp up soon.

Watch Box for sale/trade/barter

Got this Watch box about a year ago, only have one watch so I don't have use for it.  $15 obo.

Again, it all goes to the FMM fund

A horrible horrible sob story, and a tale of caution.

Some years ago I purchased one of my many dream cars, a '68 Chevy Camaro.  The body was straight as could be, the engine was a rough and gutless 350 plagued with issues, and the transmission was a turbo400, strong as an ox.  I hauled this car from home in Albuquerque through a short-lived move to Texas, all the while accumulating parts.

I had a full suspension from performance suspension components, a set of 17 inch Boyd wheels, a recaro steering wheel, line locker, edelbrok intake manifold, Dart aluminum heads sized and specced to go along with a 377 (de stroked 400cid motor) which had been built to rev a bit past six grand.  All I needed was brakes and a few other odds and ends before everything would start getting put together on this tired runner.

Then disaster struck.  Moving to a house across the street from one I shared with a friend, we had started the process, and had belongs strewn across both houses, only to find someone had broken into the garage and stolen all but the leaf springs and sway bars.  Thousands of dollars in parts were gone, and with them the dream of a gorgeous pro-touring Camaro.

I never had the heart, or the cash to revive the project and sold the Camaro about 2 years later, much to my dismay.  Fortunately she went to a good home to join a '67 and '69, and I understand she now has a 6 speed and modern LS2 heart.

Now the cautionary part; if you find yourself putting together a dream, please learn from me, and make sure your parts closet/garage/etc is properly insured.  Because of the ramshackle move, I wasn't. (and yes, these are all photos I took of my Camaro)
